The complexity of Portugal 2026 Tour continues with the original Biggos Composto being played over 3 days at Vale da Pinta , Pinhal and completing the 3 day competition at Salgados  Sports and Sailing Club.

10 gallant players were involved this year, the Gang of 4 , stationed in Ferragudo this year and the 6 man Team Vilamoura  staying mostly in Chez Crowhurst in the Old Village.

The first 2 rounds were played alongside the Shorrocks Collective in the PCC 2026 and the scores carried forward to complete the 2026 Biggos Composto.

After 2 days rookie Steve B was 8 points ahead of Chilly in second place, 14 ahead of Hoppy Dearsley and 17 in front of young Dougie Ogilvie. Biffa Amos and Tony D were somewhat behind but keen and hopeful. The rest of the field Nigel , Mick R , MK Seve and Monty were confident and in high sprits although this could be down to the high levels of prescription medication which were available.

How would the deciding day pan out ?

This was Salgados, Remember ! this place has history !

Before teeing off the players gathered and remembered Julian Winch, who, right here at Salgados had experienced his Epiphany  and to be fair he has never been the same again. (discuss).

It was a lovely day , windy with showers. Fear hung in the air or was that Nigel ? And they were off !

5 hours later the survivors limped into the clubhouse looking for First Aid, Comfort and Super Bock. The vicious greens, narrow fairways and massive lakes had taken their toll. Luckily there were no serious physical injuries but PTSD was diagnosed in a number of cases.

Chairman MK Seve had to spend a considerable time in the massage tent, Nigel would have spent some time in the massage tent but took a wrong turn and spent some time in the buggy store house and Mick R was very disappointed that he did not know there was a massage tent (Read the e-mail Mick !).

Steve B hung onto his lead with Chilly doing his very best , Dougie had a magnificent front 9 but Salgados took it’s inevitable toll and Hoppy Dearsley managed to limp into 4th place ahead of Nigel , Monty in 6th and an ebullient Tony D in the prize money for the first time. Well done Tony !!!

The prize giving at Salgados was hurriedly organised by Secretary Biffa Amos and Chilly Entwistle , last years Champion presented a carefully crafted photograph of the Trophy to young Steve Bisley:

“I’m a honoured to have won this hallowed photograph and I would like to thank the friendly sailors and wrens for their support during this round at The Sailing Club here in Salgados. I would like to dedicate this victory to the Breakfast Fairy without whom we would probably not be here today !”

And with that he was off with his bodyguards before  the hostile crowd could react.

The rest of the considerable prizes were distributed and as ever our Chairman addressed the gathering:

“Another successful Tour gentlemen, I myself have been amazed that everyone turned up at the same golf club at more or less the same time and today at Salgados no major incidence of drowning, foul play or Pirate activity. Well done Men !.”

The question remains !! Will the Tour continue into 2027 ????

What this space !
