The much talked about inaugural Elite Championship was finally held at Kibworth Golf & Leisure Spar on Thursday 29th June 2023.

The course was in magnificent condition as the 10 players (mostly Elite) strode onto the first tee for what would turn out to be a titanic battle.

As the sun shone down on the Elite, Robin and Aldo walked off the 9th green with 19 points. Sadly as the electronic score boards were not working neither player had any idea that they were in the lead.

Taylor and Dearsley were going head to head with Dearsley bouncing off trees, squirrels, passers by , streams and in fact two UFO’s and a passing Dolphin in the brook.

As the back 9 unfolded Aldo held his nerve with a mighty 20 points, Robin fell away in the strengthening wind and Rob Dexter started to challenge with 18 points.

Meanwhile in the final group Dearsley and Taylor were locked in combat. After 12 holes Mike T was in front on 25 points with Dearsley on 23. Then Dearsley turned on the pressure closing the round with 4 pars and 2 bogies bringing in 22 points on the back 9. Taylor fell away on the last 3 holes with 2 double bogies and a bogie to leave him on 37 points in 3rd place. Dearsley’s 22 point back 9 won him the trophy on count back from the gallant Aldo.

“What a battle !” said Dearsley to the gathered ensemble at the prize giving ceremony. He then went on to describe his amazing round but most people had wandered off by then.

Gasps could be heard as Robin Hall unveiled the magnificent Elite Trophy and the crowd were in full voice (although some did throw rocks) as Dearsley held the Trophy high.

The next date for the The Elite Trophy Championship is still to be confirmed.
