Meanwhile:

Day 1 Pinhal : 12 men, sportsmen, golfers, athletes and above all competitors.

The sun shone brightly in an azure blue sky , there was a wiff of breeze as they teed off the 10th up the hill away from the bustling clubhouse. 18 Holes and 4 and a half hours later Hoppy Dearsley was smiling having punched in 35 points in an awesome display of what can only be called jammy twatness. His playing partner Max Od. was in awe of the display :

“Twat” he summed up.

In 2nd place the mighty Uncle Nigel on 32 and Max himself in 3rd 0n 31. The rest of the field were hovering in the 20’s with the Dr Stewart in 4th place on 30 brave points.

Day 2 Vale da Pinta: A long drive for some of the Players but everyone arrived on time and following the traditional milling about and the now regular meeting with Algarve Golf’s Richard Balantine play got underway.

Big K Shorrocks was banging at the door with 32 points in the tricky windy conditions and lightning fast greens. Mick R was second and Sir Michaël King muscled his way into 3rd and at the end of the day Hoppy was still leading the pack by just 2 points from Mick R and a resurgent Dr Stew.

Players then relaxed in a nearby hostelry and enjoyed some rousing guitar music and the ubiquitous Super Bock and the locals gathered pointing and sniggering as ever.

Day 3 – The Final Round – The Old Course Vilamoura. The course was in superb condition, scary greens and lush fairways laid out for the 12 to endure.  The competition was telling on the players on this third day. Dr Stewart and Mick R slumped in dramatic style on the back 9 blaming a hostile crowd and the fact that they could not play golf very well.

The mighty Roger Large, current holder of The Super Bock Trophy, was on fire and won the 3rd day with a splendid 36 points but it was not enough to catch Chilly , who nipped in to 3rd place , Nigel who hung on for 2nd and a very smiley Hoppy Dearsley who stuck in 34 points to take the Super Bock Trophy for the first time.

Hoppy spoke during the evenings celebrations at the Cheapy Chicken Palace :

” I would like to thank everyone for their abuse support during todays round without Rogers encouragement, especially on not falling asleep during my back swing, I could not have made it through the day !”

The merriment went on late into the evening, not that anyone can remember that bit, and the prize giving was a great success.

The Super Bock Handicap Steaks will be up for grabs later in the year in Bridlington in September 2023.
